eChallans Now for Traffic Rules Violation in Noida
by Surili Shah
Gautam Budh Nagar police have initiated an “ e-challaning” system to centralise its traffic challan records. It is expected to help penalize repeat violators more strictly and with greater ease.
“ The new system will make it easier to maintain records of challans,” superintendent of police ( traffic) Ajay Sahdev said.
On a trial basis, 39 simputers ( hand- held electronic devices) have been issued among station house officers, gazetted officers, traffic inspectors, traffic subinspectors, nodal officers and a few head constables of the district.
The simputers are linked to a server installed at the traffic control room and records details such as the registration number of the vehicle, its make and colour. These details are then transferred to the server from which they can be accessed by the SP ( Traffic).
“ Once details of the challan are transferred to the server, I can see its number and check which staff member has issued it and how many more challans he has issued. This can help prevent laxity among the staff,” Sahdev said.
The introduction of the system will also give the traffic violator the option to either pay the challan fee at the respective office or at the headquarters.
The traffic control room can also obtain printouts of the details of the vehicle, its owner, the sections under which the challan was issued and the respective amounts. It shall also maintain records of vehicle owners, their previous offences and the amount due.
“ The system is in a preliminary stage. A team will look into the existing set- up and examine its defects next week,” Sahdev added.
