Delhi University First Cut Off List 2010 Expected Today
by Surili Shah
Delhi University will come out with its first cutoff list today.
And like every year, many prospective students will be confused about making that crucial decision: what is more important — the college or the course? While some students do the sensible thing by giving priority to the course, there are others who would take up any subject just to make it to the college of their choice.
Akanksha Rawat, who scored 91 per cent in Class XII, said: “ Some of my friends will join any course to make it to a North Campus college. But I am particular about the course. I will take up B. Com ( Hons) in the best college that I manage to get through.” And that’s the right attitude.
Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, the deputy dean of students’ welfare, said: “ Go for the course, not for a college’s name or reputation.
The graduation degree will be issued by the university and it will not have the college’s name. In the long run, it is the course that makes your career, not the college.” Tuteja said if a student failed to make it to the college of his choice in the first list, he should join any college that has offered him a seat. “ If you get through your favourite college in the second cut- off list, your fee shall be refunded by the college you have joined. But if a student who clears the first cut- off list doesn’t take admission, he won’t be considered eligible once the second list is out,” he added.
Surbhi Dahiya, a professor at the Delhi College of Arts and Commerce agreed. “ Students sometimes opt for a college because their friends are there.
Such decisions will cause problems later. It’s very important to choose a course that you have the aptitude for,” she said.
It’s also important to keep a cool mind. “ Admission seekers must carry all the necessary documents. The original Class XII certificate and its photocopies, the common admission form and all the other documents prescribed must be taken along,” Neetu Sharma, assistant professor in Mata Sundari College, said.
