Shab-e-Meraj observed today on 9 July through out the nation



Holy Shab-e-Meraj would be observed and celebrated today on 9th July,2010 on the day of Jumma as the moon of Rajab 1431 Hijri month was sighted in the country.

National Moon Sighting Committee after meeting tonight confirmed the news of moon sighting and announced that the Rajab moon was sighted today and the Shab-e-Meraj will be celebrated on July 9. The meeting of National Moon Sighting Committee was held in the conference room of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Religious affairs secretary and vice-president of the National Moon Sighting Committee Kazi Habibul Awal, Additional secretary of the ministry of information M Abu Bakar Siddiq, joint secretary of the ministry of religious affairs Kamal Uddin Ahmed, Khatib of Baitul Mokarram National Mosque Maulana Mohammad Salah Uddin, deputy director of Meteorology Department Shah Alam also attended the meeting.

All the Muslim believers celebrate this as a grand day of Meraj. The holy night will begin following Esha prayers at mosques across the country. Special prayers will be hosted by the Islamic Foundation at the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque.

People also offer special prayers at their near and dear ones' graves, seeking divine blessings for the departed souls. According to Islamic belief, Muhammad crossed seven skies on the heavenly vehicle, Borak, on 26 Rajab, 620.
